The Stories I Tell ~ from The Word Cellar

Stories. Anecdotes. A free round of words for everyone!

I love stories. I'm the one at social functions with a dozen new anecdotes. But I worry about hogging the conversation. Sometimes I tell myself that I'll be quiet and let others do the talking. But no matter how hard I try, my stories insist on bursting out! Here I can let my stories (the classics that I tell again and again, as well as new ones that unfold along the way) run free. I'm a professional writer and editor, and sole proprietor of The Word Cellar. I write for a variety of publications and clients on everything from green buildings and nuclear reactors to entrepreneurship and the arts. If you need words written, edited, or enlivened, I can help. Contact me.

William Shatner's Expensive Kidney

According to CNN.com, "Actor William Shatner has sold his kidney stone for $25,000, with the money going to a housing charity...." That's a pricey piece of pain.

Apparently, CNN has a whole Offbeat News section. Maybe this is not news to you. But I'm fascinated by it!

And speaking of William Shatner. Have you watched Boston Legal? It's the best thing Shatner has ever done. ("Denny Crane!") ...Well, the best thing he's done next to those Travelocity commercials. And maybe that weird musical duet he did at some award show last year.

And I know it might be wrong, but I just eat up James Spader as Alan Shore.

Meow

I'm on a roll. Two posts in one day. Look out.

Inspired by Allyson's desire not to leave her second cat out of the fun, here is a picture of Gatwick licking his chops (while Cheska chows down beside him, eating the remains of his food.)

In a Snowy Wood

David coerced me into a winter wonderland frolic when he was home for Christmas. There was no snow at my house this day, but Lynn Run State Park (just 45 minutes away) was transformed into a land of sparkling delight.

This picture shows off David's Photo Shop skills and catches me in a moment when I'm not looking around to see if a bear might come eat us in those quiet, quiet woods.

I have to admit: It was magical. (And not a bear or mountain lion to be seen.)

Slacker Blogger

Okay, I've been called out. I got this email from my brother this morning:

"you hardly blog on your blog site. i check everyday. "

Yes, it's true, I'm a blogger slacker. I was thinking about it this weekend, but didn't find time to blog.

And now that I have a digital camera, there's no excuse for me not to have photos up on this here site.

So here's a photo of my darling little kitty Cheska. David took this picture last summer.

So there. I have a blog entry. And a photo. And a tribute to my brother. Ha.

Epiphany Tree

I'm sorry to report that our beautiful white pine yet sits in the garage.

But there's still a little bit of hope. Orthodox Christians celebrate Christmas this coming Friday. It's also the Day of Epiphany, to be celebrated at the culmination of the 12 Days of Christmas.

Contemplation of a tree sounds like a good way to have an epiphany.
